On our recent trip to Leicester, we spent a night at the Sketchley Grange Hotel & Spa as part of the Stay Play Explore package.

When you book a family hotel as part of a kids-holiday package, you really don’t expect much, especially when you’re paying £129 all in for a family of four. Imagine my surprise then when we pulled in at the Sketchley Grange Hotel and Spa and found it to be a beautiful 4-star hotel!

The original country house has been extended and enhanced over the years into a luxury four star hotel, with the on-site Romans Health Club with a 17 metre indoor pool, Sauna and Spa.

Despite the outside country-manor appearance, the inside of the hotel is thoroughly modern, with cool greens and browns and fresh furnishings throughout.

The family room is stunning – it honestly took our breath away! We’ve lived in houses smaller than the room we were given!

Sketchley Grange HotelObviously we arrived with the beds already made up, but if you’re not travelling as a family of four, the second bed would make up a plush sofa, giving you space to relax and enjoy the view from the room.

I wish we had more time to explore this hotel, but since we were only there for one night and had two full days on either side, we had a brief swim in the pool – children are welcome till 7pm – and I enjoyed a few stolen moments in the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi.

There’s a fantastic looking restaurant on site for dinners, but we skipped that. We did have a good breakfast in the conservatory in the morning however.
